How 4.digital collects, uses and protects personal information.
Last updated 20 October 2026
Who we are
4.digital is a search marketing agency working globally and remotely. For the purposes of data protection law, 4.digital is the controller of the personal information described on this page. Questions go to hello@4.digital and are answered by a person.
What we collect
Information you send us
Your name, email address, company and anything you choose to put in a message. The contact form sends what you write straight to our inbox by email. Nothing is stored on this site, and the message is not passed to any third party.
Website data
Pages visited, approximate location at country or city level, device and browser type, and how you arrived. This comes from Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, and only if you accept cookies.
Client information
Contact and billing details needed to run an engagement, plus the accounts you give us access to (analytics, advertising and similar) in order to do the work.
How we use it
- To reply to you and to do the work you ask for.
- To understand which pages on this site are useful and which are not.
- To run, report on and bill client engagements.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Lawful bases
Consent
Analytics and Clarity cookies are set only when you accept them. You can change your mind at any time using Cookie preferences in the footer.
Contract
Processing needed to prepare a proposal or deliver work you have asked for.
Legitimate interests
Running and securing this site, and keeping ordinary business correspondence.
Legal obligation
Tax, accounting and regulatory duties.
Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity
Google Analytics (Google LLC) measures how the site is used. Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation) records anonymised sessions and heatmaps, to show where people get stuck and what they ignore. Both are loaded through Google Tag Manager, which stores no personal data of its own. Everything is switched off until you accept cookies, and refusing them stops nothing else on this site.
Both providers process data under their own terms and may store it outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, using recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Who else sees it
We do not sell personal information. It is shared with the service providers who help us run the business (Google and Microsoft for the tools named above, and our email and hosting providers), with professional advisers where necessary, and with authorities when the law requires it.
Where it goes
Our service providers are based in the United States and elsewhere. Where personal information leaves the UK or the EEA, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer, including standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries, up to two years after the last contact.
- Client records, for the life of the engagement and up to seven years afterwards, for tax and accounting.
- Analytics and Clarity data, for the retention periods set in those tools under the settings we use.
- Cookie consent records, for as long as we need to show what you chose.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or pass it to another provider. You can withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@4.digital and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom, or to your local supervisory authority in the European Union.
Security
Access to personal information is limited to the people who need it, with two-factor authentication on the accounts that hold it. No system is perfect. If something goes wrong, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
Cookies this site uses
- cookie-consent remembers the choice you make. It is always on, because the site cannot respect your decision without it.
- _ga and _ga_* are Google Analytics cookies, set only after you accept.
- Clarity identifiers are Microsoft Clarity cookies, set only after you accept.
